The author of this book is danah boyd. That is not a typo; she prefers to use lowercase in her name to "satisfy her irritation at the importance of capitalization". She is 37 years old and was born in
Pennsylvania. She is the principal researcher at Microsoft Research, a visiting
professor at New York University, and a faculty affiliate at Harvard. She
completed her PhD in 2008 at University of California-Berkeley, and she got her
Master’s degree at MIT. She works at multiple non-profits and helps use
technology to help youth that are struggling. She also worked at V-Day, an organization
to help end women’s violence worldwide. She has received many awards including “most
influential woman in technology” in 2009. She blogs a lot and has a Twitter
page.
